A total of 11 projects across Wisconsin were selected to receive funding aimed at strengthening the state’s local and regional food systems. The equipment-only grants are designed to help food and farm businesses expand capacity, improve efficiency, and enhance resilience through targeted investments in processing, aggregation, storage, and distribution equipment.
DATCP officials said the grants will support a wide range of operations, including small and mid-sized farms, food processors, and other local food enterprises. By funding critical equipment upgrades, the program helps businesses overcome infrastructure barriers and better serve local and regional markets.
The RFSI program focuses on building a more resilient food supply chain by supporting projects that improve food access, strengthen local economies, and increase opportunities for Wisconsin-grown products. Equipment funded through the grants may include refrigeration units, processing machinery, packaging systems, and other tools essential to scaling food operations.
USDA representatives noted that partnerships with state agencies like DATCP are key to ensuring federal investments reach local communities where they can have the greatest impact. The program is part of a broader national effort to reinforce food system infrastructure following disruptions seen in recent years.
DATCP said grant recipients will use the funding to make long-term improvements that benefit producers, consumers, and communities alike. Additional details on individual awardees and funded projects are expected to be released as implementation moves forward.
