After months of discussion, detailed review, and multiple open public meetings, village officials voted to move away from the current Theresa EMS model and instead contract ambulance services through Mayville EMS. Village leaders described the decision as difficult but necessary to ensure reliable, sustainable emergency care for residents.
Officials cited ongoing challenges faced by small, rural ambulance services across the state, including staffing shortages, rising operational costs, increasing training requirements, and higher call volumes. Despite strong community support and dedicated volunteers, village leaders said maintaining an independent EMS service was no longer viable in the long term.
Contracting with Mayville EMS is expected to provide consistent coverage, professional staffing, and predictable costs while maintaining coordination with local fire and law enforcement agencies. Village officials emphasized that response times and quality of care were central considerations throughout the decision-making process.
The transition plan includes continued communication with residents as implementation details are finalized. Village leaders said they will work closely with Mayville EMS to ensure a smooth changeover and uninterrupted emergency medical coverage starting at the beginning of 2026.
Officials also expressed gratitude to the members and volunteers of Theresa EMS for their years of service to the community, recognizing their commitment and dedication to public safety.
The Village of Theresa encouraged residents to attend future meetings or review official communications for updates as the transition approaches.
