On May 22, students enrolled in the class, taught by Patrick Davis, delivered individual presentations focused on topics they were passionate about or felt were important to share. The project challenged students to research, organize ideas, and confidently present in front of an audience.
The LION Talks were designed to help students strengthen essential communication skills, including public speaking, critical thinking, and persuasive delivery. Each presentation reflected the student’s personality and interests, ranging from personal experiences to broader social and cultural topics.
Davis said the assignment was intended to mirror real-world speaking opportunities while encouraging creativity and self-expression. “The goal is to prepare students for college, careers, and life beyond high school by giving them confidence in their voice,” he said.
Classmates, staff, and guests who attended the presentations praised the students for their preparation and professionalism. Many seniors noted that while public speaking can be intimidating, the experience helped them grow more comfortable expressing ideas in front of others.
School administrators highlighted the Communication and Debate class as an example of how Lomira High School continues to expand course offerings that build practical, lifelong skills. The success of the LION Talks has sparked interest in continuing and expanding similar presentation-based projects in the future.
