Lomira Board Seeks Changes Before Approving Vehicle Sale Ordinance

At its meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 8, the board considered Ordinance No. 380, which would establish rules governing the sale of vehicles and equipment on residential properties within the Village of Lomira. Board members discussed the intent of the ordinance, which is aimed at addressing concerns related to neighborhood appearance, safety, and zoning consistency.

During discussion, trustees raised questions about specific language in the proposed ordinance, noting that certain provisions may need clarification to ensure the rules are fair, enforceable, and clearly understood by residents. Concerns included how many vehicles could be sold at one time, how long vehicles could remain on a property, and how the ordinance would differentiate between private sales and business activity.

Village officials emphasized that the goal is not to prohibit residents from selling personal vehicles, but rather to prevent ongoing or commercial-style sales in residential neighborhoods. Board members agreed that additional revisions were necessary to better define enforcement standards and avoid unintended consequences.

As a result, the board did not adopt the ordinance at the Oct. 8 meeting. Instead, officials directed staff and legal counsel to revise the proposed language and bring it back for further review at a future meeting.

Village leaders encouraged residents to follow upcoming agendas and participate in public discussion once the revised ordinance is presented. Further action on Ordinance No. 380 is expected later this year.
