Horicon High School’s manufacturing class, taught by Mark Boehmer, welcomed Curt Patrouille and Chad Haase from Neuman Pools, Inc. for a week-long learning experience focused on pool construction and skilled trade careers.
During the visit, students were introduced to the planning, design, and building process involved in constructing swimming pools. Lessons covered topics such as site preparation, materials, measurements, safety standards, and the importance of teamwork in large-scale construction projects. The presenters also shared real-world experiences from the field, giving students insight into daily responsibilities and problem-solving challenges in the trade.
Boehmer said the program was designed to expose students to career paths beyond traditional four-year college routes. By connecting classroom instruction with industry professionals, students gained a better understanding of how manufacturing and construction skills translate directly into the workforce.
Patrouille and Haase emphasized the growing demand for skilled trades workers and encouraged students to consider apprenticeships and technical training programs. They highlighted how careers in construction can offer long-term stability, competitive wages, and opportunities for advancement.
Students responded positively to the hands-on approach, asking questions about equipment, timelines, and career preparation. School administrators noted that partnerships like this help bridge the gap between education and employment while preparing students for life after graduation.
The School District of Horicon continues to support career and technical education opportunities that connect students with local businesses and real-world learning experiences.
