During a recent city meeting, Mayor Josh Maas acknowledged the widespread damage caused by the storms and commended city staff, emergency responders, and residents for their swift response. High winds and tornado activity resulted in downed trees, damaged structures, and debris across multiple areas of the city.
City officials reported that public works crews worked extended hours in the days following the storms to clear roads, restore access to public spaces, and assess infrastructure damage. Utility providers also coordinated closely with the city to address power outages and ensure public safety.
Mayor Maas noted that while the storms created unexpected challenges, the community’s response highlighted Horicon’s resilience. Neighbors helped neighbors with cleanup, and local organizations stepped in to assist residents impacted by property damage.
Updates were also provided regarding ongoing repairs and next steps, including continued debris removal and evaluations of affected municipal facilities. City leaders said they are documenting damages and costs as part of potential assistance and reimbursement processes.
As summer approaches, Horicon officials expressed optimism that normal operations are largely back on track. While some recovery work continues, city leaders emphasized that cooperation between residents, city departments, and local agencies has helped Horicon rebound quickly from the May storms.
