Wisconsin, USDA Announce Equipment-Only Grant Awards to Strengthen Food Systems

A total of 11 projects across Wisconsin were selected for funding, which will be used to purchase equipment that expands capacity and improves efficiency for food and farm businesses. The Equipment-Only grants focus on targeted investments—such as processing, storage, aggregation, and distribution tools—aimed at strengthening local and regional food supply chains.

DATCP officials said the awards support small and mid-sized producers, processors, and food enterprises working to meet growing demand for Wisconsin-grown products. By helping businesses modernize or add critical equipment, the program is intended to reduce bottlenecks, improve food access, and bolster resilience against disruptions.

Funded equipment may include refrigeration and cold storage, processing and packaging machinery, and other infrastructure essential to scaling operations and serving local markets. Grant recipients are expected to leverage these investments to create long-term benefits for producers and consumers alike.

USDA representatives noted that state–federal partnerships are central to ensuring investments reach communities where they can have the greatest impact. The RFSI program is part of a broader effort to reinforce the nation’s food system following recent supply chain challenges.

DATCP said additional information on individual awardees and project details will be shared as implementation moves forward.
