Theresa Officials Review Proposal for New Cell Tower Lease

During the board’s meeting on Monday, May 19, Village President Jody Steger shared details regarding an offer from a telecommunications company interested in constructing a cellphone tower within the village. The proposal would involve a long-term lease agreement with the village in exchange for hosting the tower.

Steger explained that the offer was brought to the village’s attention through communication with Becky Tellier, who relayed initial information about the potential project. The tower is intended to improve cellular coverage and service reliability in and around Theresa, an issue residents have raised in the past.

Board members discussed potential benefits of the proposal, including improved emergency communication and enhanced service for residents and businesses. They also raised questions about tower location, lease terms, long-term impacts, and community input.

Village officials emphasized that the discussion was informational and that no decisions have been made. Any agreement would require further review, negotiation, and approval by the Village Board, as well as consideration of zoning and regulatory requirements.

Residents will have opportunities to provide feedback as the process continues. Village leaders said additional information will be shared at future meetings as more details about the proposal become available.
