A longtime family business in Horicon has officially entered a new chapter as ownership of Horicon Ace Hardware passes to the third generation.

Family-Owned Horicon Ace Hardware Transitions to Third Generation

On January 1, 2025, David and Sandi Konrath sold the store to their daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and Vance Mattila. The transition keeps the business firmly rooted in the family and continues a legacy that has served the Horicon community for decades.

The Konraths, who spent years building the store into a trusted local resource, said the decision to keep ownership within the family was an important one. Community relationships and personalized service have long been central to the store’s identity, and the new owners say those values will remain unchanged.

Kristine and Vance Mattila bring both familiarity and fresh perspective to their new roles. Having grown up around the business, they understand the importance of customer service in a small-town setting while also looking for opportunities to modernize operations and expand offerings to meet changing customer needs.

Ace Hardware stores are independently owned and operated, allowing local owners to tailor their inventory and services to the community they serve. The Mattilas said they are committed to maintaining that local focus while continuing to support community events and organizations in Horicon.

As David and Sandi Konrath step back from daily operations, they expressed confidence in the next generation’s leadership and gratitude for the community’s continued support.
