The season opener began cautiously, with both teams trading punts on their first offensive possessions. Momentum shifted quickly in Lomira’s favor, however, as the Lions’ defense asserted itself early and often. A sack by Blake Steger for a 10-yard loss set the tone, stalling a Husticon drive and igniting a defensive performance that controlled the game.
“Our defense was stellar and performed at a high level by applying pressure all night, flying around the ball, and covering well,” Lomira head coach Bryan Gregory said. “We definitely have a lot to be proud of with that group, and we’re going to need a lot more of that going forward.”
Lomira’s defense consistently disrupted the Husticon offense, limiting quarterback Barrett Meyer’s opportunities and forcing difficult situations throughout the night. The Lions complemented that effort with steady offensive production, building a comfortable lead and maintaining control through all four quarters.
Final Score
Lomira 28, Horicon/Hustisford 6
Season Outlook
The opening-week win pushed Lomira to 1–0 and provided an early benchmark for a team with championship expectations. With defensive intensity leading the way and the offense showing balance, the Lions begin the season with momentum as they look ahead to the challenges of conference play.
